LI Xiuyan     RESEARCH SCIENTIST

Serving as the Deputy Director of Shenyang National Laboratory for Materials Science (SYNL), Prof. Li Xiuyan oversees and coordinates the administrative affairs, financial affairs, academic exchanges, information and publicity of SYNL. In addition, park construction, technical support platform construction and operation are also under her guidance. Before assuming her current position in September 2018, Prof. Li joined SYNL as the Assistant Director in 2010. She also has led the Size Limits in Metal Group of the Metallic Nano-Materials Division since 2018.

Recent years witness a series of progress in nano metals made by Prof. Li. She has made major contributions in the discoveries of the extraordinary thermal and mechanical stability of nano-grained metals below a critical grain size and lowering coefficient of friction effect in gradient nanostructured Cu alloys. She also proposed the concept and principles of plainification of materials, which is a greener alternative to alloying to tailor the properties and functionalities of metals, and thus becomes the chief scientist of the relevant national key R&D program.

Prof. Li obtains her B.Sc. from Nanjing University of Science and Technology and Ph.D. from the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Science. Prof. Li holds 6 patents and has published more than 50 research papers in leading academic journals including Science, Nature Materials, Science Advances and etc.
