LU Ke     ACADEMICIAN OF CAS

Prof. Lu Ke, Director of Shenyang National Laboratory for Materials Science (SYNL) since March 2001, guides the overall work and directs the development and execution of plans to exploit the signature strength of SYNL. Starting his career at the Institute of Metal Research (IMR), Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) in 1990, Prof. Lu served as Director of the State Key Laboratory for Rapidly Solidified Non-equilibrium Alloys, IMR, CAS from 1997 to 2001, and became the founding director of SYNL in 2001.

As a world-class leading material scientist, Prof. Lu contributed to the advancement of nanostructured materials with trend-setting research. His highly cited research covers nanostructured metals and amorphous alloys, dealing with thermodynamic and kinetics of processing and phase transformation, stability and melting, mechanical and tribological properties, physical and chemical properties and etc.

Prof. Lu holds his B.Sc. from Nanjing University of Science & Technology and his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from IMR, CAS. He has authored and co-authored more than 400 international peer-reviewed journal publications, holds more than 40 patents, and has presented over 100 invited lectures at international conferences and symposia. Prof. Lu is an elected member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (2003), the World Academy of Sciences for Developing Countries (2004), the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina (2005), and the National Academy of Engineering of USA (2018). He received numerous awards and honors from different countries, including Acta Materialia Gold Medal (USA), TMS Fellow Award (USA), MRS Fellow (USA), Humboldt Research Award (Germany), THERMEC Distinguished Award (Canada), etc.
