We focus on the mechanisms of microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC), and the strategies to prevent and mitigate MIC. We fundamentally change the paradigm for the mechanism by which microbes anaerobically corrode metal materials. We demonstrate that metal materials are susceptible to corrosion via direct/mediated metal-to-microbe electron transfer. We also develop anti-MIC and antibacterial materials, green, biodegraded and cost-effective biocides (corrosion inhibitors).
